This is the most effective way to quit • Choose a quit date that will be stress free, and stick to it • Find out about products that will help to manage cravings, such as nicotine patches, gum or Zyban • Plan to keep busy. Take up a new hobby, start a project or plan more exercise (join STEPS or WalkWell) • Tell family and friends and get their support • Quit with a friend and support each other • At first, plan to avoid situations where you might be tempted to smoke • Get support online e.g www.givingupsmoking.co.uk • Plan treats • Take your quit attempt seriously: be determined and stay positive. You CAN do it!! North East Lincolnshire NHS Stop Smoking Service • Provides help and support for people who are motivated and ready to stop smoking, programmes are run by specialist advisors • Meet once a week for 6 weeks and operate from a variety of locations in Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Immingham • You are not expected to have stopped smoking prior to the start of a programme • The first session is an introduction, with advice on planning and preparing to stop, the quit date is then set during the second week • The advisors give information on nicotine replacement and Zyban, how to obtain these (usually on prescription), and how to use them effectively • Carbon monoxide monitors are used at each session • Following the 6 week programme, support is offered to the 1 year point, with regular relapse prevention clinics and access to a telephone support line • We have a dedicated specialist smoking and pregnancy advisor, whose remit includes families with young children, she is able to offer support in smaller groups, or on a 1 to 1 basis Anyone wanting more information about our service, or wishing to book on to a programme can telephone directly 01472 302787.
